What drives utilization
Utilization depends on two things: how many cameras are added to the IVR, and the resolution of each camera.
Number of cameras — every camera added to an IVR consumes part of its capacity. To check IVR camera capacity Go to Devices → Appliances and click the appliance.
Camera resolution — higher-resolution cameras (for example, 4K / 8MP) use much more capacity than lower-resolution cameras (for example, 1080p / 2MP).
Here is IVR recommended resolution
Because resolution matters, camera count alone does not tell you how loaded an IVR is. If you have two or more IVR per location, support can help to move cameras between IVRs if it's uneven
You can check utilization under Devices → Appliances
Recommended threshold
Keep IVR utilization below 100% at all times. At or above 100%, the IVR has no headroom left and performance problems start.
What can go wrong when an IVR is overloaded
Recording gaps — missing or incomplete footage on one or more cameras.
Dropped frames or choppy video in recordings and playback.
Lower storage due to high utilization/ resolution
Laggy or buffering live view, or streams that fail to load.
Delayed or missed AI detections and alerts (people, vehicles, events).
Cameras intermittently going offline or reconnecting.
Slow search, playback, and video exports.
How to reduce utilization
Rebalance cameras — move some cameras from the overloaded IVR to another IVR at the same location if you have more than one unit) with lower utilization.
To move cameras from one IVR to another, please open a support ticket and include the serial numbers of both IVRs and the cameras you’d like to move.
Lower camera resolution on cameras that do not need great detail (for example, hallways or low-priority areas). Or set cameras to recommended resolution
Remove/delete unused cameras from the IVR.
